FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Is education really ministry?
YES! Education opens doors that we don't even realize. Parents are passionate about their kids and will do whatever they can to make their children successful. By being an affordable, quality, "American" style school and the best school they can send their children to, ICSV can draw people who would normally never set foot into the door of a church. This provides the amazing opportunity for us to share the Lord with students who may have never been given this chance!
  • What will Aaron be doing while Molly is teaching 4th grade?
Aaron has jokingly (but seriously!) said he is fully prepared to support this ministry by scrubbing toilets. What a guy. :) In all seriousness, the school will match him with various supports they need based on his gifts, interests, and abilities. So far, they have expressed interest in using him for recess/lunch duty, secretarial work, and extracurricular support (especially with sports).
  • What kind of ministries are the missionary parents doing?
You name it, they're doing it! From pastors, evangelists, church planters, pastoral training, Bible/Christian resource translation, refugee outreach, music ministry, Christian radio, etc...
  • Why must you raise support if the students are paying tuition?
One of the primary purposes for ICSV's existence is to be a support to the missionary community in and around Vienna. If the school paid a salary to the staff, they would have to pay 140% of that amount in taxes to the government (10,000 becomes 24,000). That combined cost would push tuition costs way beyond what the missionaries could afford. Even amongst the non-missionary community ICSV reaches out to those that don't have a lot of money. Many, many students come from families that can't afford the other English speaking schools. They come to the school because it's affordable and in English. While at ICSV they hear the Gospel, see our lives, and hopefully come to know the Lord. To date, 80% of our school population receive some form of financial support.
  • How long is your commitment to ICSV?
Our commitment is at least two school years, beginning this school year (2013-2014).
  • How much do you need to raise?
We are required to raise 100% of our financial support, a minimum of $1,750 per month for the first year and $19,000 in initial start-up costs. Because of our very late hire, ICSV has been as gracious as possible to us in cutting our monthly costs for the first year. This figure includes Aaron's stipend so we as a couple can be viable in Vienna. The $19,000 seems EXTREMELY overwhelming (trust me--we have felt that!!!), but broken down, the number makes much more sense. It includes the airfare, transportation, housing, security deposit, VISAs, and two-three months worth of salary until the school can legally 'pay' me once my VISA has processed.
